Case in point: My son and I drove 53 highway miles with a wooden, roll top desk strapped to the top of my little Kia Sportage..(He made me promise not to make him do that again, he was driving 45mph on the highway and the thought of it falling off stressed him out...a 17yo stressed out? Really? )
My biggest pet peeve, is seeing sturdy wood items, couches, and love seats, tossed out. All that time and material being discarded...OUCH! Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you have to keep your furniture forever, but I believe that things can be re-purposed and given another cycle before going to the dump.
I have more than three R's Recycle, reuse, redesign, re-purpose, replace, reinvent, renew...see where this is going?
While I realize I can't save every item, I will attempt to show you my newest, mostly modern, attempt on sprucing up and reusing the pieces I do rescue. My design style is my own, I call it "decocycle". Decor+ recycle=decocycle. It is mostly modern elegant and always transitional meaning it can be changed with my mind or mood..lol. Decocycle style encourages thinking outside the box.
Example: This love seat waiting curbside for the dumb truck was rescued and refinished, using fabric, cardboard, and glue. I added our family crest on the bottom for a personal touch.
I am individually creative, but I believe in giving credit where it is due, as I get a lot of my inspiration from HGTV and other t2t'ers. When this is the case, be sure to check out my inspiration.
In my efforts to help out, the planet and people, I am embarking upon a wonderful journey of treasure hunting and invite you to come along! Hopefully, you will never look at discarded furniture the same EVER again.
Finally, my dream is to have my own treasure cove eventually. With that in mind, I will occasionally have pieces are for available for purchase and my redesign skills are also available to create something original for you.
View all the posts of my work so you can see what I've been up to! Who knows? Maybe your creative imagination will be sparked.
Now...Let's decocycle!!
