Meanwhile, I entered this reuse competition on ooffoo earlier this year. My main goal was to just post some of my work. I entered a few things, but my reuse of wooden drawers, caught their attention and brought home a prize! Here is the prize winning piece...

This is the before picture of it.

I found this drawer along the side of the road. Someone threw out a huge desk, so, I rescued the drawers just before the dump truck pulled up. Of course they looked at me like I was crazy, but it was worth it. As you already know, It breaks my heart to see wooden items tossed out and headed for the dump. I think they can be given new life and at least one more purpose before heading there. Plus it can be turned into something simply amazing! The feet are pieces I rescued from an old thrown out couch.
That was before I found a reuse for the entire couch...that is coming soon! I need to find some investors for that idea, as it is a biggie!...lol Anyone interested??? There is another competition going on there now. i know lots of you who read this blog are SUPER creative! Please enter with me!
In the meantime, here are some, more recent, uses I found for drawers, with it being Spring and all. I visited the Botanical gardens in Greensboro over the past month and here a few shots I took.
This one was breath taking to me...it is two flowers combined into one. It is sad someone pulled it off the stem, and just left it on the sidewalk.
After visiting the gardens, I thought I would try out my green thumb. I really wanted to see if I could grow something outside without killing it....But if you know me it is never a simple process. My creations have to incorporate as many ideas that I can get into them. I wanted flowers in the front of my home, but there are two ginormous (may not be a word but, yes, I said it!) trees in my front yard with protruding roots. So planting anything is impossible. I decided to use dresser drawers to plant the flowers in. Well how does that work, you ask?
and lined it with plastic...
I lined it with plastic, because any processed wood can contaminate fruits and veggies in a garden. Hopefully this will work. I planted tomatoes and squash in this one.
In the others, I planted flowers
So here is my "drawer reuse" garden.
I have planted peppers, tomatoes, chiles, and more! The other drawers are not lined because they are wood and have not been majorly processed. I even managed to get a used wine crate from behind a store.....As the plants grow I may have to replant them, but in the meantime, the drawers have been repurposed and I am growing something! YEAH!
Here is another upcycled project. I found a roadside bird bath. The couple who tossed it said, "it doesn't hold water anymore". I thought perfect! Now it can hold some flowers!
Here is a very innovative idea..I am wondering about the weight of it, but want to try it anyway. They made a garden out of rain gutters! WOW
Do you have any drawer reuses? Creative gardening ideas? Care to share pictures and stories with us all? Let me know!
